Connie Torrence

Connie Torrence was born and raised in the State of Washington. Her musical background was limited to singing in the church choir (her daddy was the preacher) and playing rock and roll on the radio. The only Bluegrass she was exposed to may have been the "Darlings" on the Andy Griffith show.

After moving to Virginia in 1989, a friend invited her to a show at Gloucester High School featuring Jim and Jesse and the Lewis Family. Over the years, she attended a few jams at the Owsley Music Shop, remembering Mr. Owsley telling her to learn to play the bass. She started singing harmony in a group called "Growing Grass", which evolved into Made From Scratch. She bought an old upright bass and with a little help from Shelby Liston (Tidewater Junction), started playing.  And she still adds those great lead and harmony vocals!

Connie is co-owner of a landscape shrub nursery and enjoys going to bluegrass festivals and spending time with her grandchildren Cameron and Kyleigh.
