In 2000,  Cindy White and Connie Torrence were joined by friends Steve and Valerie Sikes-Nova to form "Growing Grass", a string band playing an eclectic mix of bluegrass, newgrass and folk music.  In 2001, Randy Crittenden (dobro), formerly with "Dragon Run Bluegrass Band", joined the group, followed by Evins Goodwin (mandolin) and Mike Nicely (banjo).  The band soon changed it's name to "Made From Scratch". 

The band continued playing local venues and recorded its first CD, MADE FROM SCRATCH, in 2003.  A second CD, MR. OWSLEY'S STORE, was released in 2005.  Later that year, Evins left the band and Ben Wiggins, formerly with "Salt Marsh", took over mandolin picking duties. 

The band has expanded its audience to include larger crowds at The Cabin Fever Pickin' Party, the Gloucester Daffodil Festival, Mr. B's Bluegrass Festival and First Night in Williamsburg.

In 2007 Mike and Randy left the band to start another and we were joined by Keith Forbes, formerly with "Tidewater Junction" on banjo, Jessica Zelinsky on fiddle and Emily Scalici on fiddle. 

The most frequently heard compliment about Made From Scratch is "you folks sure seem to be having fun up there."  We hope our audiences enjoy themselves as much as we do!
